CENTRALITY OF THE SCRIPTURES: A Life That Incorporates Scripture

While the issue of authority has always been a driving force for the people of God, it feels particularly important in our cultural moment. In a city like Charlottesville that is becoming increasingly post-Christian, how we answer the question of who or what determines right and wrong, good and evil, moral and immoral, can lead us in wildly different directions.

At Dwelling Place, we hold to the truth claim that the Bible is the inerrant, inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16) and that as designer and creator of our souls and our world, God is the ultimate authority regarding the path of human flourishing.

Because God exists outside of time and place (Revelation 8:1, Jeremiah 23:24), the authority of His word is not limited to the time or place in which it was written. Rather, He tells us that His “word is living and active” (Hebrews 4:12). As believers and followers of Christ, we have been given the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5) who guides us in truth (John 15:26) both as individuals (1 Corinthians 6:19) and as a community (1 Corinthians 3:16). Because of these promises, we can trust that God is still speaking to us in accordance with scripture.

Some of the practices scripture prescribes for our walk of faith include regular meditation, prayer, and intercession (Joshua 1:8, Luke 5:15-16). Dwelling Place strives to be a community that lives out Bible based practices in order to live as thriving members of God’s Kingdom.
